This is a time of profound importance and change in the Gulf of Maine fisheries. The groundfish industry continues to adapt to a fundamental transformation in management structure, and significant reductions in catch quotas seem to be on the horizon for several key species. We work directly with Gulf of Maine stakeholders to nurture the cooperation, communication, and innovative solutions necessary to overcome these challenges and ensure the sustainability of the industry.
This year, we helped fishermen get under the hood of fisheries management and introduced them to new ways to increase their profitability. In our role of neutral convener around complex marine issues, we gathered managers, scientists, and fishermen together to discuss and develop solutions to the industry's challenges.
We also grew our sustainable seafood programs in both number and impact this year. Through our science-based approach, we continue to develop and support ecosystem-based sustainability strategies in the Gulf of Maine.
